Normal West Bands to Host 14th Annual Craft Show

The Normal West Bands will host their 14th Annual Craft Show on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The Craft Show will take place from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, and exhibitors will display their crafts throughout Normal West High School at 501 N. Parkside Road in Normal.

Parkside Students Qualify for IEMA

Congratulations to the following students from Parkside Junior High School that auditioned and qualified for the district IMEA Band, Orchestra and Choir. They will represent Unit 5 well at the district level Concert Saturday Nov. 21, 2009 at Braden Auditorium.

PEPPER RIDGE DESIGNATED A ‘PROMISE PLACE’ BY AMERICA’S PROMISE ALLIANCE

NORMAL, IL – Pepper Ridge Elementary School today announced that it has been designated a Promise Place by America’s Promise Alliance. A Promise Place provides youth with the Alliance’s Five Promises – caring adults; safe places; a healthy start; an effective education; and opportunities to help others – under one roof. It is only the second location in Illinois to receive this designation.

EXTREME MAKEOVER UNIT 5 EDITION

Crowded behind a yellow school bus, children from Fairview Elementary School chanted “move that bus,” in anticipation of showing off their “new” school to the community.

As the bus slowly pulled away to expose the front door, the group entered the school which was completely rehabbed this summer.

“The parents went ‘oh my goodness.’ They couldn’t believe how much it changed,” said Principal James Shaw.

The entire building received a fresh coat of paint, and every classroom got bright new carpet, built-in wooden cabinets, as well as new doors and windows. Each classroom also got state-of-the-art Smart Board projectors.
