    As a staff, we have chosen a focus on manners and respect as part of our school improvement plan for this school year. Mr. Myers will be using lessons from Manners of the Heart curriculum each week during morning assemblies. Manners of the Heart was founded to help students become respectful children who grow up to become respectful adults. We will post our themes on this school website with some suggestions on how you can reinforce those themes at home.

    This Week's Theme: Telephone Manners (Mr. Myers talked to the students about how to use the phone respectfully). Here are some of the things you can reinforce and practice at home.....

    * Be friendly when you answer the phone.

    * Speak slowly and clearly.

    * Answer the phone by saying "Hello? (Last Name) residence" and not "Yeah".

    * Speak to the person who is calling (unless you do not know him or her)

    * If the caller asks for someone else in your family, say, "Hold on, please, while I go get him or her."

    * Walk the phone to the person the caller requested; do not yell for him or her.

    * Always give your full attention to the person you are talking to on the phone. Focus on what the other person is saying. You might be asked to take a message and if you are not giving them your full attention, you just might miss some of the important information that is being told to you.

    * Always give privacy to a person who is talking on the phone. Do not interrupt them unless it is an emergency.

    We also shared with the students that if they do not know the caller, and the caller asks personal questions, they must give the phone to an adult right away.

    Reminding children of these rules will help them become more respectful of those they are speaking with on the telephone AND it will help them become more respectful of you while you are on the phone.

    Thank you for your partnership in achieving our common goal of developing good manners in your child.

    As part of our all-school behavior system, students earn tickets to get the chance to win various prizes at the end of each month. We are seeking any donations of age-appropriate items that students might be interested in. These do not have to be new items but could even be things your own children no longer play with or things you notice at garage sales going on right now. Items can be dropped off in the office throughout the school year. Thank you so much!
    Important information regarding student drop-off/pick-up
    All Hudson families should note our drop off and pick up procedures this year. In the morning all students (except La Petite and bus students)  need to enter the main doors off of our parking lot.
    Students may enter the building beginning at 7:10 a.m. with teacher supervision beginning at 7:20 a.m. Students are to wait in our main hallway outside the office until the 7:30 a.m. bell and then proceed to the gym until morning announcements are given at 7:40 a.m.
    The school day officially begins at 7:45 a.m. so students arriving after that time will be considered tardy and will need to be signed in at the office by a responsible adult. At the end of the day, a dismissal bell will ring at 2:30 p.m. Students will be dismissed out of the following doors: All bus riders exit the west door onto the bus lane. All walkers and bike riders exit the east door off of McLean Street. This is where parents should pick up students if they are not using the car lane.
    All students being picked up by cars in our car lane will exit the main south doors. They wait inside the school and will be called out to their pick-up car by a staff member. If you are picking up students by car, you should make sure you display your car tag on your inside mirror so that our staff can correctly call students to the pick-up lane. Car tags are available at our school office. It is very important that you communicate any change of pick-up to your child, your child's teacher, and the school office.
