  • Each school year, a survey of parents is given for each Unit Five elementary school. We need at least 20% of our families represented in that survey for the results to count and be included in our school report card sent to the state. If you have not done so, please take a few minutes to take the survey with your opinions of Hudson Elementary School. The survey will be open until January 30th. Thanks! The survey may be found at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/

As a staff, we have chosen a focus on manners and respect as part of our school improvement plan for this school year. Mr. Myers will be using lessons from Manners of the Heart curriculum each week during morning assemblies. Manners of the Heart was founded to help students become respectful children who grow up to become respectful adults. We will post our themes on this school website with some suggestions on how you can reinforce those themes at home.

This Week's Theme: Express Kindness and Appreciation on a Daily Basis (Mr. Myers shared the book called Have You Filled a Bucket Today? We discussed the key point that when we care for others and show that with what we say and do, we feel good and help others to feel good as well) Our students learned that everyone has an invisable bucket that holds good thoughts and good feelings about ourselves. We feel happy and good when our bucket is full and sad and lonely when our bucket is empty. We can fill other people's bucket by showing love to someone, and when we say and do something kind (like giving someone a smile) A "bucket filler" is a loving, caring person who says and does nice things that make others feel special. A "bucket dipper" is someone who says and does mean things that make others feel bad. You never fill your own bucket when you dip into someone else's.

Here are some ways you can encourage your child to be a "bucket filler".....

    * Enourage them to smile and say "Hi" to others like the bus driver or a neighbor.

    * Encourage them to write or draw a thank you note to someone like their teacher or someone in the hospital or nursing home.

    * Encourage them to tell their grandparents or other family members that they like to spend time with them.

Bucket filling is fun and easy to do. It doesn't matter how young or old you are. It doesn't cost money and it doesn't take much time. When you are a bucket filler, you make your home, school and neighborhood better places to be!

As part of our all-school behavior system, students earn tickets to get the chance to win various prizes at the end of each month. We are seeking any donations of age-appropriate items that students might be interested in. These do not have to be new items but could even be things your own children no longer play with or things you notice at garage sales going on right now. Items can be dropped off in the office throughout the school year. Thank you so much!
    Important information regarding student drop-off/pick-up
All Hudson families should note our drop off and pick up procedures this year. In the morning all students (except La Petite and bus students)  need to enter the main doors off of our parking lot.
Students may enter the building beginning at 7:10 a.m. with teacher supervision beginning at 7:20 a.m. Students are to wait in our main hallway outside the office until the 7:30 a.m. bell and then proceed to the gym until morning announcements are given at 7:40 a.m.
The school day officially begins at 7:45 a.m. so students arriving after that time will be considered tardy and will need to be signed in at the office by a responsible adult. At the end of the day, a dismissal bell will ring at 2:30 p.m. Students will be dismissed out of the following doors: All bus riders exit the west door onto the bus lane. All walkers and bike riders exit the east door off of McLean Street. This is where parents should pick up students if they are not using the car lane.
All students being picked up by cars in our car lane will exit the main south doors. They wait inside the school and will be called out to their pick-up car by a staff member. If you are picking up students by car, you should make sure you display your car tag on your inside mirror so that our staff can correctly call students to the pick-up lane. Car tags are available at our school office. It is very important that you communicate any change of pick-up to your child, your child's teacher, and the school office.

The School Board has voted to reduce the number of Late Starts this school year. This is different than what is on the original school calendar you received. THERE WILL NOT BE LATE STARTS ON MARCH 22 OR APRIL 12. Please take note that there will now be regular start times on those two dates.
